A little drink, a little exercise. January 8, 2008

Okay, so in my case it’s very little drink (maybe one a week), and a little more than “a little” exercise (running 4 days a week), but it’s an interesting study coming out of the European Heart Journal. Turns out that exercise and a little drinking is better for you than exercise and no drinking. We aren’t talking about water. Here is some information from the study via National Nine News:

Non-drinkers had a 30 percent to 31 percent higher risk of heart disease compared to moderate drinkers, no matter the amount of physical activity they undertook.

People who had the lowest risk of dying from any cause were physically active, moderate drinkers while those at highest risk were the physically inactive, heavy drinkers, the study found.

Moderate consumption was defined as between 1 to 14 drinks per week.
