Normal? I haven’t been that in years! May 15, 2008

It’s official. I am “normal,” and that is a new thing. Or an old thing. I have been overweight since 1995, and was classified as obese from about 2000-2007 (based on my BMI). I dropped about 36 lbs last year and hovered at the bottom of the “overweight” class. The winter was rough for me and I stopped running - and stopped losing weight. I actually gained 4 lbs back! Well, once Spring hit things are back on track, and I am now at the high end of the “normal” class. Sweet! I have a way to go to reach my goal weight, but I am going to continue to focus primarily on running and eating smart. The weight is taking care of itself.

Look what I just picked up. Reading good books on running has been very encouraging, motivational for me. I recently finished reading The Chicago Marathon, and can now start on Yasso’s My Life on the Run. Well, maybe tomorrow since I’ll be working late tonight.

Wednesday. 5 miles in 53:24. Got up early this morning to run in the light rain. I took it easy and the run felt great. Really nice morning. I’ll push myself on the next run.

Tuesday. 3 miles. It was very windy today, so I knew I wasn’t going to run hard. My daughter has been wanting to go with me on a 5k, but she’s only 6 (she’ll be 7 later this month), and she’s only ever run one mile a few times. So we mapped out a 3 mile run on friendly roads and, to my surprise, she ran the whole thing! I was very impressed and she was very pumped. I am hoping to get out tomorrow for a solid 10k run.
