Day 97: 5 Miles in 52:26 September 1, 2007

Saturday. 5 miles in 52:26. I am happy with that time. It’s a slow 10:30 per mile pace, but it felt good at a number of times during the run, and I think I could have continued to run for a while. This is only my second attempt at running 5 miles I am very excited that I can do it. Nothing hurts – I have been very blessed in this area since I know a lot of people who have experienced pain when running the same distances.

The 5k I was planning on running in October has been pushed back to the spring, so I am signing up for an even better race; the Pumpkins in the Park 5k in Chicago. Here’s the low down:

This 8th Annual Pumpkins In the Park 5K kicks off the yearly Chicagoween Events for the City of Chicago. This race benefits the Chicago Park District and is a wonderful event for the whole family or any runner/walker who just wants to have a fun time. There is pumpkin coloring; a costume contest for all ages, live music and beer (for participants over 21). This has become a Chicago Halloween tradition, come and be part of it.

It’s on a Saturday, has stuff for the kids – even “Kids Spooky Sprints” my 6 year old will love – and looks like a really good time in general.

pumkin run sounds fun (and that kind of rhymes…) glad you’re still on target to do a 5k, you’re gonna love it!

Hi Joe! Amazing—I just ran 5 miles this morning in almost exactly the same time as you. It was my first time ever for me!

I blogged about it:

Congratulations on reaching this goal and on your mission to improve your body. I’ll be coming back here to visit.
